Product Description:

Tropico V is the latest installment in the series of city builder simulation games created by Haemimont Games. Since the very beginning of this construction and management game franchise, Tropico was loved by players and critics due to the fact, that while it was quite a complex strategic game, it never took itself very seriously. Even though the players decide on the fate of the entire island nation, build cities, manage the population and establish the government, the game is filled with dozens of jokes and caricatures of real nations, historical figures and events and even the satire character of the El Presidente, the player’s representative in Tropico game. With Tropico 5 Complete Collection (PC), you can be the El Presidente even longer and make your nation flourish and develop for many years.

Gameplay

In general, Tropico 5 follows a similar premise as its predecessors. However, it should be noted that all the elements have been significantly upgraded since the first installment in the series. Once again, you're going to take control over a small city on the remote island. In this city construction and management simulation, your main aim is to make your little city to flourish. You can enjoy the campaign mode, where you are taken through the history of the island nation, divided into a set of missions connected with each other. Here you are not only going to create your own, powerful country but you are also going to learn how El Presidente was able to gain so much power in the beginning.

Tropico V graphics

There is also a sandbox mode where you can pick the era in which the game starts, generate the island, choose the starting money and even requirements to fulfill and play any type of scenario you want to.The game also introduces a multiplayer mode, which might be surprising for a tycoon title. However, in Tropico V it is possible to enjoy the sandbox, quick co-op scenarios, and even PvP. Furthermore, Tropico 5 also provides you with some RPG elements. You create your own El Presidente and his dynasty which can have up to 7 members. Each one of them has different traits which level up with each scenario and have a serious impact on the gameplay itself. For example, one of your characters might increase the effectiveness of all buildings while the other might raise your profits from mining.

Plot of Tropico 5

The plot presented in the single-player campaign, guide you through the career of the Caribbean island leader - El Presidente and all members of his dynasty. You start as a Governor of small island colony of the equivalent of the Britsh Empire in the game, chosen by Lord Oaksworth to take care of an island chosen by you, for a period of 4 years. Slowly, you're going to gain more power and each mission will make you deal with more problems.

You'll be forced to defend your island from enemy forces, be accused of the assassination and even participate in the nuclear race during the cold war. Being El Presidente is a hard thing to do, but at the end of the century, your people may remember them as the national hero.

Characters

As it was mentioned before, Tropico series never took itself too seriously and the fifth game follows the same pattern. It is filled with crazy, over the top characters that besides the player character, include: Penultimo, the advisor and second-in-command to El Presidente, who is extremely loyal, but definitely not the brightest person in the world. Leon Kane, the friend and mentor of the player character and the main antagonist and leader of an organization known as The Order at the same time.

Abraham Zweistein who is an obvious parody of one and only, Albert Einstein. And finally, there is Veronica Veneno, who symbolizes capitalism in its worst way. She is greedy and she exploits both the people and the environment. All these characters are so over the top, that you simply cannot take them seriously.

Reception

Reception of Tropico 5 from both players and critics in general have been very positive. As a good side of the game, reviewers usually points out the strategic aspect of the game, great humor, and interesting plot. The game has been seen as a very good continuation of the acclaimed Tropico series.
