Product Description:

The Grand Campaign

Total War: Attila puts you in the role of one of the game’s 10 factions over the course of decades. Certain factions like the Barbarians seek to destroy anyone in their warpath while the Romans aim to hold on to what they already have. One very important thing in Total War: Attila is politics. Manage properly each, different faction or otherwise, you can face assassination or even a civil war. Arrange marriages with other factions to gain important allies and then stab them in the back when they least expect it. Discover a detailed and engaging system that adds an additional layer of depth to the core of Total War experience.

Complex Tutorial

If you are not a Total War veteran, the tutorial campaign will teach you everything you need to know. It does a great job, simultaneously refreshing franchise essentials while introducing new mechanics. Listen to your advisors, they will give you tips depending on the situation and objectives. Sacking towns or building farms will give you meaningful goals toward victory.

Leed epic battles

Total War: Attila features battles, that are first initiated on the turn-based world map.The general is responsible for each troops’ movement and it’s limited to a certain distance per turn. Then, the action transitions to a real-time and depending on where the battle starts, the surroundings will change accordingly. Remember, that troops position is critical and always means the difference between victory and defeat. Fighting from an elevated position offers a huge advantage, as do flanking and battle formation. There is also a rock-paper-scissors element to each skirmish, cavalry defeats swordsman, spearman defeat cavalry etc.

Plan your superior movements and tactics!

If you choose to forego the real-time battles, there is an auto-resolve feature that calculates army size and location to determine victory. Attacking heavily fortified cities is always an epic occasion with heightened stakes as it takes years to complete. Looting and sacking the city is a valuable undertaking that helps boost your economy and morale considerably. Damage done by catapults is reflected in the real-time battle and scaling walls with ladders and destroying doors with battering rams is thrilling. Archers on city walls rain death upon anyone trying to breach they city while catapults in the distance make even the mightiest armies tremble. Once inside, armies can set fire to buildings adding an extra layer of chaos to the event.

Raise the competences of your soldiers

Commanders and troops can each level up with their own skill tree. Each of your troops may have completely different skills that may affect the victory. There are also special accessory slots which offer minor stat bonuses. It is important to train your commander as well as it’s possible. If a commander gets killed your army might flee in terror and lose significant morale.

The quick battle option

Fight without building an army or nurturing political relationships! Choose the army size, location of the engagement, and the type of battle including ambushes and naval battles. It is a perfect, stress-free environment to practice different units compositions, formations, and tactics if you’re struggling in the campaign. Additionally, there are 10 historical battles ranging from the naval siege at Cartagena to the religious rebellion at the Frigidus River.

Stunning visuals and detailed environment

Beautifully made cutscenes add context to the events and knowing all these battles actually happened thousands of years ago adds an extra level of gravitas to the proceedings. All conflicts and environments look gorgeous and very detailed.
